That's "Low-Tech"

I went to see a lecture by Lot-ek at Tulane Architecture School last night. Just can't seem to leave that damn building.
Anyway, I was really intrigued by the work they did. They're currently exploring ways to take industrial objects and integrate it into their architecture projects.

An apartment in New York City, with a sleeping loft made from a petroleum tanker.

The student pavillion at University of Washington, made from the fuselage of a Boeing 747.

My thesis (if you care, but now that I'm no longer a student I have to milk it for all it's worth) was on converting industrial buildings and fields into cultural and recreational centers. I've always been fascinated by the look of power plants, particularly at night, particularly in East Texas. To me, the beauty of industrial architecture is that every piece is purely functional, which is a Modern ideal, but aesthetically, the sum of the parts adds up to more.

I also wonder, as the United States declines as an industrial nation, what we'll do with all the relics. In Germany there are projects where they've reclaimed nuclear sites and even landscaped gardens where the waste fields used to be. England has numerous factories that have been converted into art and science museums.

I'll quit wanking off over my thesis now. The point is I need to go to lectures at TSA more often; while I like my job just fine now, I'm often afraid I'm losing momentum/inspiration/ambition. Now and again something reminds you what you REALLY used to be interested in and had some passion for.

yeah, you should harass me about going to some of those lectures too. Even though I'm not pursuing an architecture career at this time, I guess I did like it somewhat, since I subjected myself to five years of it.

I have lots of thoughts on industrial buildings as well, but I don't feel like getting in to that at the moment.

I also have lots of thoughts on cultural uses for industrial buildings as well, but you would understand them.

Drats! Another fine joke ruined by poor editing. I meant to write, " . . . , but you wouldN'T understand them." Even though my joke bombed, you, and your "crowd" are below me. I spit on your pleabian so-called architecture. You created Orange County with your small brains and stubby fingers.

Steve- too bad you had go ruin it. I thought you meant it in the way of, "you would understand them because I can coherently organize my thoughts, what is this rambling piece of shit you just posted."

Much more devastating. Too bad you ruined it.

Also, Satan created Orange County, not architects.

Luke- GEEK GEEK. Does everyone here know my brother was homecoming king? Hmmm...not very "punk rock," is it?

Jesus, Jeanette! You're always talking about Sara's huge rack! Well, there's more to Sara than that...things like her heart. Sara's got a huge heart too!Sometimes, the amount of heart she has is practically overwhelming, and it makes me want to remember to be grateful that there are such amazingly good-hearted people in this world, and that i am able to be friends with them and see their heartfelt actions on a regular basis. Of course, by heart i mean boobs.
